Laura Weaver teaches 7th and 8th grade science and Citizen Science. She attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education with Special Education certification (pre-K through 3rd grade) and middle grades endorsements. She is also certified in high school English, health and personal finance.

From a young age, Laura knew she would be a teacher.  That was solidified for her in college, and she added middle grades endorsements. She believes that “everyone needs a role model, a person to say you can do it, you have a purpose, and I’m here for you.”

Laura chose to work at Ivy because it is not a typical “cookie cutter” school. She says, “The learning environment allows students to learn ‘how’ they learn.  All students can learn, but they might have a different way going about it than other people. Allowing them to use their way of learning makes them own their education and want to learn. Also Ivy is not only a school, it is a community. The school teaches the students to be good citizens, to treat others with respect and to work together. Ivy also has an environment of service. This puts value on giving back to the community and to be an active member in their community.”

Laura loves to play, watch and do pretty much anything that involves sports. She plays with a Special Olympic Unified volleyball team in Chattanooga. She also loves being with people, no matter the event. Laura has worked at Ivy for four years and spent the 2017-2018 school year serving and living in Costa Rica. She also enjoys being involved in her youth group at church as a leader.
