Shannon Heavilin-Beattie is an educational assistant with high school math, helping implement the math curriculum and assisting students acquire math skills, helping them find that “aha” moment:  “Math is not a spectator sport.”

She chose Ivy because this school “provides a unique opportunity for students to find their potential in a non-traditional setting.”  Among other projects, Shannon has helped involve Ivy students in the Molly’s Adopt-a-Sailor initiative for the military.

Shannon graduated from the University of Redlands with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics (minor in education).  She was a nominee for the Yavapai County (Arizona) High School Teacher of the Year and has received CPI and SEI training.

A native southern Californian, Shannon came to Tennessee by way of Prescott, AZ. She is the mother of three grown sons and enjoys reading and cooking in her spare time.  Outdoors, she enjoys hiking and observing the wonders of nature in Tennessee, a state with four seasons.
